Weapons with the Ammunition property require ammunition to make ranged attacks (see Adventuring Gear in this chapter). Each attack consumes one piece of ammunition, and you need a free hand to load a one-handed weapon. Drawing ammunition is part of the attack action. After an encounter, you can retrieve half of your used ammunition by spending 1 minute searching the area. If you use a weapon with this property for a melee attack, it is treated as an improvised weapon. Slings must be loaded to deal damage as improvised weapons.
