Associated Ability: Wisdom
Your Wisdom (Perception) check allows you to notice, hear, or sense the presence of something. It represents your overall alertness and sharpness of senses. Examples include listening to a conversation through a closed door, eavesdropping by an open window, or smelling monsters lurking in the woods. It also helps you notice hidden details, such as ambushing orcs, shadowy thugs, or the faint glow of a candle behind a secret door.
Passive Perception
Passive Perception is a way to use your Perception skill even when you’re not actively searching. It automatically helps you notice hidden dangers, like ambushes or traps, before you stumble into them (see Passive Checks in this chapter for more details).
